How to time your wedding shopping!BLOG
Timing is everything!
With this years wedding high season nearly over, we turn to look at those unique winter brides, and those individuals planning for the summer of 2018. We all know the phrase that good things come to those who wait, but the waiting game can be stressful and often unsuccessful one for any bride to play.
A popular question with many brides preparing for their big day is what time frame should they be working to for bridesmaids dresses and other necessary large items for their wedding day. And my answer never comes without caution. Naturally, I am inclined to suggest that every bride is different and their own processes of getting into a flow with the organisation of their wedding day is a natural occurrence. Some brides like would stress if everything wasn’t done as soon as possible and others would be overwhelmed by the intensity of making so many decisions so quickly. But despite my cautious approach to these questions, I do always advocate one thing; the earlier the better.
Planning a wedding is one of the most important things a couple will do in their lives together, a most special day, to be share with all their loved ones. Getting ahead of the game therefore, and making decisions on colour themes, or venues is important to ensure a smooth and easy ride.
Here at The Boutique we aim to work on a minimum turn around of about 3 months for bridesmaids dresses, ensuring that there is plenty of time should the rare occurrence of a mistake be made (god forbid) and therefore leaves us plenty of time for corrections! Victoria Millesime’s lead time is a minimum of 3 weeks, catering for those brides still looking for that perfect hair piece. Large bespoke orders may need a little more time, but most pieces in store and online have a shorter turn around. Our gorgeous bridesmaid dresses from Matchimony, come in such a wide range of styles and colours and are a huge hit with our brides and their maids. Their turn round is usually between 4-6weeks so perfect for those who have left it a little later with Linzi Jay and True Bride – Luna collection we need around 12-16 weeks to complete orders and then you’ll need some time for alterations so we always recommend getting your foot in the door early, even if it is just to gain an idea of what you do and don’t like. Of course for those looking for something really last minute we do have a rack of sample dresses for sale which are limited in colour, size and style but are ready to go as they are!
As for wedding shoes we have two options – Diane Hassall we have in store to take away if we have your size otherwise delivery is usually about 2 weeks. Faber Novella’s are made to order as you can pick your colour, heel height and thickness so these usually take around 6 weeks. While the turnaround is pretty quick you will still need to get your shoes around 3 months before your wedding as you will need them for your dress fittings so your dress can be made to the right length!
With these recommendations always comes the question of how quick is too quick and how long is too long, especially with bridesmaids dresses, as we often have brides expressing their concern around the inevitable changing figures of their maids. The honest answer is unfortunately not precise enough for some, but we recommend it to be somewhere in the middle. The sooner you order your maids dresses, the sooner they arrive. Once you have them, thats a major tick off the long list of tasks to get through, and one less stress to think about nearer the time. ordering them too quickly can be hard if you have bridesmaids who are trying or expectant mothers but otherwise we recommend placing your order at least 6 months in advance. Smaller alterations can be left until a couple of months before the actual day, allowing your maids to have some flexibility in their shape and size, whilst also making sure that the dresses are as close to perfect fit as possible.
