Since the summer sun has disappeared and we’re getting prepared for the cold winter months ahead, I’d thought about doing some research on the latest colour treads and find out what is “hot” this winter. But much to my dismay, their didn’t seem to be a running theme. I didn’t find that navy or purple were the must have or that brides were mixing it up with cool greens and warm reds with Christmas just around the corner. So I went back to the drawing board and thought I’d do a little of my own research. So 3 weeks and multiple appointments later, I’ve finally realised what this seasons must have is. Two pieces.

Modern brides and their youthful maids are absolutely nailing it with the two piece combinations. Mixing layers of subtle dreamy tulle and contrasting delicate lace can give your maids that stunningly soft look.

This gorgeous combination from Linzi Jay, is our absolute favourite. The delicate lace top, adorned with covered buttons at the back is perfect for any Bridesmaid. Complete when paired with this beautiful platinum skirt, using multiple laters of tulle to create a wonderfully full yet still flattering skirt.

For those brides on a slightly cheaper budget, our Maya dress from Matchimony works wonders! Scalloped lace tops compliment contrasting bright tulle. The possibilities with two piece combinations are almost endless!

And for those brides overseas, you’ve got just as many exciting options that combinations these gorgeous elements.

BHLDN have got the most incredible two piece Art Deco style dresses, for that vintage bride looking to add a little sparkle to her big day.

And lastly but definitely not least, there are the gorgeous two pieces from Reverly, USA. These striking combinations are enough to win anyone over and are guaranteed to make your maids feel a million dollars on the day!

When it comes to bridesmaids, however many girlfriends you’ve got by your side on your big day, we all know the perils of choosing  something that not only suits but also appropriately fits every girl. It’s not often that a group of women, with different shapes, styles and skin tones can walk into a shop and successfully try on the exact same dress, and all look and feel comfortable in it. So why is it that we think this uniform look will work for our wedding day?

Yes, of course there are bridal parties that look stunning in the same dresses; sisters are the first that come to mind. Small parties can also pull off the look with only a few girls to match together. But frankly thats not always the case for bridal parties. More often than not, one wants her shoulders covered, the other is conscious of her chest, the third hates the dress you’ve already chosen. And so, as we are finding here at The Boutique, brides are choosing to settle their qualms by instead opting for a “mismatch” look.

The concept of having mismatched bridesmaids is definitely not new to the bridal scene, however, more recently, as what is fashionable for the younger bride changes, its popularity has risen greatly. Giving a nod to vintage styles and laid-back settings, these mismatched bridesmaids have made a comeback supporting the retro styles of the 1920s and onwards.

However, as easy as it sounds to simply randomly pick numerous dresses for numerous girls there are some tips and pointers we would love you to note down before settling on a mismatched look.

Firstly, it is important for every bride to figure out what their main objective is; be it comfort, elegance, colour or style. Although the “mismatched” bridesmaid trend is in full swing, understanding the way that mismatched bridesmaids work together is most important. It would be difficult to say that we’ve loved every attempt we’ve seen, but the truth is that the wedding parties that work best, are the ones that are subtly different yet still stand out as unique dresses in their own rights. Sometimes a change in material is enough to create that striking difference, occasionally its the cut or the style of the dress. Perhaps it’s the colour that changes from bridesmaid to bridesmaid. Obviously there would be no issue with changing all three, however it is important to remember that most brides want their bridal party to look like one close unit, not just a variety of individuals chosen randomly on the day!

It would be relatively simple to give each bridesmaid a colour swatch of the desired colour theme for the wedding, asking each maid to find a dress that compliments the colour you have chosen. For example, you could choose a bright and warm blue tone, leaving your maids to find something similar. With this you’re likely to get some paler tones and some richer hues, perhaps even some choices with printed patterns, but all chosen to compliment the original colour swatch.

Alternatively, another popular route to take, would be to pick an era. 1920, 1930, or perhaps even 1960s! Whatever the choice, it would then give your girls the freedom to style themselves to their hearts desires, without ending up with an eye sore on the day!

In store we’ve got all the options you need from True Bride, Linzi Jay & Matchimony, have a huge range of colours and styles to chose from, including a flexible multiway dress, designed for brides looking to execute the mismatched theme.  Whether you’re looking for beaded detailing, sparkling sequins, chic separates on block colours we have something for you! Check out more about our bridesmaids dresses here.

To say we are excited about the impending arrival of the True Bride Luna Collection of Bridesmaid dresses her at The Boutique is a pretty serious understatement. We are literally bursting at the seams. When the True Bride brand rep came here with all the styles for us to choose from we could hardly get Victoria Millésime out of the dresses! In this series of posts we’ll be taking a look at some of our absolute favourites from the True Bride Luna Collection – and first up is the True Bride Lola dress.

True Bride Lola – Just the right amount of sequins.

As we’ve been choosing our curated selection of bridesmaid dresses to stock at The Boutique, we’ve seen our fair share of sequin bridesmaid dresses. And let me tell you – sequins are very hard to get right. Done just right, they are stunning… done wrong and you look like you’re starring in a Broadway revue. Not the look you want as a bridesmaid. So how does the True Bride Lola dress fare?

We think she gets it pretty spot on. The delicately sheer blouson style sequinned bodice gives just the right amount of sparkle. While True Bride’s signature chiffon silk skirt silhouette gives a perfectly feminine finish.

True Bride Lola – Our pick of colour combinations

True Bride Lola is available with the sequinned top in three perfect hues – rose gold, gold and silver. These can be paired with over 50 of the True Bride bridesmaid shades. We think the rose gold sequin is the one to go for – paired with something like Wintermelon (as shown) for a very pale pink, or perhaps Dusky Pink for a slightly darker pink shade. Although Steel Grey with silver sequins would also be pretty amazing. Agggghhhhh how to choose?? This is definitely a bridesmaid dress to fall in love with.

And don’t forget – we are offering 10% off all True Bride Luna orders at our True Bride designer weekend on the 6th and 7th October. Book your appointment here.

We so often get asked by brides – do they really have to toss their wedding garter? They spent so much time finding the perfect one and now they just have to throw it away for someone else to keep? What if the bride wants to keep the wedding garter for herself, alongside her other wedding keepsakes – the veil, headpiece, order of service etc.

Well Victoria Millésime is here to solve this problem for you in her recent blog post: “Do I Have To Toss My Wedding Garter?”

This is one of the questions I get asked most frequently…. “Do I have to toss my wedding garter?”

Many brides have spent a considerable amount of time choosing the perfect wedding garter for their outfit. Therefore they are naturally concerned about tossing it halfway through the day, and never seeing it again!

There is a long history surrounding the wedding tradition of tossing your wedding garter – I actually wrote whole post about it here. But just because it’s tradition, doesn’t mean you have to! For many brides, their box of wedding keepsakes is a far more important consideration than rigidly sticking to tradition.

To read Victoria’s top tips for solving this dilemma, head on over to her blog here to read the full post.

And if you’re still looking for your own perfect wedding garter, we stock the full collection of Victoria Millésime wedding garters here at The Boutique for you to try and purchase.

Timing is everything!

With this years wedding high season nearly over, we turn to look at those unique winter brides, and those individuals planning for the summer of 2018. We all know the phrase that good things come to those who wait, but the waiting game can be stressful and often unsuccessful one for any bride to play.

A popular question with many brides preparing for their big day is what time frame should they be working to for bridesmaids dresses and other necessary large items for their wedding day. And my answer never comes without caution. Naturally, I am inclined to suggest that every bride is different and their own processes of getting into a flow with the organisation of their wedding day is a natural occurrence. Some brides like would stress if everything wasn’t done as soon as possible and others would be overwhelmed by the intensity of making so many decisions so quickly. But despite my cautious approach to these questions, I do always advocate one thing; the earlier the better.

Planning a wedding is one of the most important things a couple will do in their lives together, a most special day, to be share with all their loved ones. Getting ahead of the game therefore, and making decisions on colour themes, or venues is important to ensure a smooth and easy ride.

Here at The Boutique we aim to work on a minimum turn around of about 3 months for bridesmaids dresses, ensuring that there is plenty of time should the rare occurrence of a mistake be made (god forbid) and therefore leaves us plenty of time for corrections! Victoria Millesime’s lead time is a minimum of 3 weeks, catering for those brides still looking for that perfect hair piece. Large bespoke orders may need a little more time, but most pieces in store and online have a shorter turn around. Our gorgeous bridesmaid dresses from Matchimony, come in such a wide range of styles and colours and are a huge hit with our brides and their maids. Their turn round is usually between 4-6weeks so perfect for those who have left it a little later with Linzi Jay and True Bride – Luna collection we need around 12-16 weeks to complete orders and then you’ll need some time for alterations so we always recommend getting your foot in the door early, even if it is just to gain an idea of what you do and don’t like.  Of course for those looking for something really last minute we do have a rack of sample dresses for sale which are limited in colour, size and style but are ready to go as they are!

As for wedding shoes we have two options – Diane Hassall we have in store to take away if we have your size otherwise delivery is usually about 2 weeks.  Faber Novella’s are made to order as you can pick your colour, heel height and thickness so these usually take around 6 weeks.  While the turnaround is pretty quick you will still need to get your shoes around 3 months before your wedding as you will need them for your dress fittings so your dress can be made to the right length!

With these recommendations always comes the question of how quick is too quick and how long is too long, especially with bridesmaids dresses, as we often have brides expressing their concern around the inevitable changing figures of their maids. The honest answer is unfortunately not precise enough for some, but we recommend it to be somewhere in the middle. The sooner you order your maids dresses, the sooner they arrive. Once you have them, thats a major tick off the long list of tasks to get through, and one less stress to think about nearer the time. ordering them too quickly can be hard if you have bridesmaids who are trying or expectant mothers but otherwise we recommend placing your order at least 6 months in advance. Smaller alterations can be left until a couple of months before the actual day, allowing your maids to have some flexibility in their shape and size, whilst also making sure that the dresses are as close to perfect fit as possible.

Happy shopping!

Bridesmaids Gifts

The final check has been paid, deposits have been taken, and quite frankly you’ve never seen your account look so bare since the good old days of student living. However there is nothing more exciting than thinking of your wedding fast approaching, and attempting to comprehend how special that day will be with all the blood, sweat and tears that has gone into the planning stages. Thank God for those maid of honours, best friends, siblings, and even mothers and mothers in law, for their last minutes sanity checks, for picking up the slack when you just couldn’t cope, and for holding your hand every step of the way.

So naturally, you want to show how appreciative you are, for their undivided attention to your needs throughout this manic time. But after all, how can you put a price on their hard work?

I’m sure if money and time was no object, we’d all love to whisk our loved ones away on a girls trip, hitting up the sunny coasts of the Maldives, or even gliding down the slopes in Aspen. But quite frankly, our dreams can continue being dreams, and in reality, it doesn’t take that much to truly tell someone how grateful you are. Often the most sincere and meaningful gifts are those that come truly come for the heart; a sentimental letter to show your appreciation goes further than you think. And paired with our top 5 gifts under £30, you’ll be able to truly let those individuals know how much they mean to you.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

I think you’d be hard pressed to find many people that don’t light up when you mention December and all the month has to offer us. Yes, of course we know its cold, and the lack of daylight makes us want to pack our jobs in and never leave that cosy bed of ours. But there is something so magical about that time of the year that unsurprisingly tickles many brides fancies. \Winter weddings, with their cool undertones and classy atmosphere, are all the rage right now!

However, planning the perfect wedding in the cooler months around Christmas can actually become more difficult than expected, with more limitations than warmer months and the organisational difficulties that come with having a wedding in the low season. So without further ado, here are our top tips on planning the perfect winter wedding.

Photo @wedding_wonderland_313

Firstly, timing is everything. Unlike the summer season when weddings are at their height, the winter season can be scarce. With the added competition of school holidays, and season trips, not to mention work christmas dos and all those celebratory drinks parties, getting your invites out early is a must. Although we tend to think of most people stuck in on a cold night, making themselves cosy in front of the fire, the reality is the we are al much more preoccupied than that. Sending early invites will ensure that your guests clear their schedules and make weather appropriate plans for travelling to your venue.

Second top tip is to seriously thing about colour themes. With the shorter daylight, it is more difficult to pick a colour theme that is going to shine through in the darker light, especially as the sun starts to drop around 4pm in the height of December. Rich colours are most popular with winter weddings, however it is easy to think that classic winter colours work best when that is not always the case. “Christmas” colours such as red and green tend to look excessive and twee, despite their relationship with the season. instead, look at a greater range of colours, focussing on cooler undertones. Blues, purples and pinks can all work perfectly with winter weddings, as long as you don’t opt for war undertone. The cooling colours will compliment any winter venue, and would look particularly perfect against snowy scenes, should you be so lucky!

Photo @wedding_wonderland_313

Our third tip is to prepare, and then prepare again for all types of weather. Here in the UK, we know our luck when it comes to the weather, and to be honest this tip is not exclusive to winter brides, with summer weddings also being threatened by gloomy rain clouds. However, with the colder months comes you definitely have to be ready. Equipt with umbrellas and rugs, jackets and mugs

If you think of the typical wedding cake, what comes to mind? 3 tiers, ribbon bows, some little sugared roses? Well those days are long gone! Of course you can still go with a very traditional cake like this, but the traditional wedding cake rules have long gone out the wedding and these days there are sooo many alternative wedding cake ideas out there!

Here are our top 6 picks for alternative wedding cakes

1. The Non-Traditional, Traditional Wedding Cake

So you have your heart set on a three tier wedding cake, but want to bring it up to date with modern trends and in line with your uber cool, industrial chic wedding? How about choosing a marbled effect wedding cake? You still get all the deliciousness of three humongous layers of cake (and all the cake tasting that comes along with that, whoop whoop), but with super modern styling this is definitely not your mum’s 1970s floral cake.

Here are some of our favourites from The Enchanting Cake Company

alternative wedding cake ideas

2. An Upside Down, Traditional Wedding Cake

If you’re still keen on a real wedding cake (and can’t bear to forgo the cake tasting sessions, although who could blame you…), we absolutely love this idea from The Enchanting Cake Company of turning your wedding cake upside down and hanging it from a beautiful display!! You still get all the gorgeous sugared flower detail while seriously upping the cool factor.

3. The Wedding Dessert Table

One of the alternative wedding cake ideas that has become hugely popular recently is the dessert table – instead of slices of fruit cake that, let’s be honest, many people don’t actually eat, how about giving them a table of deliciously decadent sweets and treats for them to help themselves to? Mrs Jones does absolutely delicious dessert tables, all beautifully styled with her huge selection of vintage china, like this one from one of our recent Boutique photoshoots.

4. The Cheese Cake

This alternative wedding cake idea has been around for a while, but is such a great idea and wedding guests just love it – a “traditional” three tier wedding cake made entirely of cheese, like this tasty looking cake from Borough Box!

5. 3 Tiers of Cup Cakes!

Who doesn’t like a cup cake. i mean seriously. Find me someone who couldn’t devour a cup cake in about 30 seconds flat. The perfect balance of cake to frosting, in a perfectly portable package. Take it onto the dance floor, along to the bar, drink in hand, no need for a plate. And really, that’s what is happening at 10pm on your wedding day after everyone has finished their meal. Sure, if you need a small cake so you and your new hubby can do the traditional cake cutting, go for it! But free your guests from the shackles of the plate (and necessary table) and let them eat cake!

Nor do you have to go for cupcakes as you know them – give your cake maker the creative freedom to go to town on your cupcakes – each little cake becomes a stunning work of art. How incredible are these floral cupcakes from The Enchanting Cake Company?

6. Just ditch it.

No one is going to RSVP “no” to your wedding cause you’ve decided against a cake. It’s not against the law. It won’t be the lasting memory your guests have of your wedding. Treat them to a delicious dessert instead and save the cakes for birthdays. Because it’s your wedding, your day, and your (non-existent) cake.

We’re obsessed with the brand new wedding shoe collection from Diane Hassall.  So much so, we’ve now got then entire range in store at The Boutique for you to try, fall in love with and buy!

Diane Hassall has a long heritage in footwear….in fact over 25 years. 2017 sees the rebirth of the brand in fine form in fact it has never looked stronger or lovelier.

With a history of designing bridal shoes, available worldwide, Di has worked alongside great industry names such as Emma Hope and Jimmy Choo, and has shoes in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert museum London. She has always strived to elevate the bridal shoe to new levels, introducing new fabrics, textures and colour and has always been seen as an innovator in her field.

Di’s signature style combines beautiful fabrics, embroidery and embellishment, and after working in the mainstream bridal industry for the last 10 years she is beyond excited to launch her own eponymous collection again. Creativity and versatility are ultra important to Di, not only must the shoes look gorgeous, but they must be totally wearable….. and ideally not for just one day.

‘Brides are at the centre of what we do, but I don’t just want the brides to wear these shoes once’ says designer Di Hassall ‘this colour palette works beautifully for bridal, but we see these shoes as investment pieces to be worn again and again.’

She now brings the best of her design knowledge to her new ‘Di’ collection, here you will find contemporary design and quality, put simply ‘beautiful shoes made beautifully’.
